As I was reading through a newspaper, I found a bit of news which I thought could happen only in India.

The screening of a film(not sure which) was halted by protesters.Why?

The answer is "simple." The film's directer was one Mahesh Bhat. His son was Rahul Bhat. Rahul Bhat allegedly had connection with one David Headley who was arrested in USA for involvement in the 26/11 strikes in Mumbai. And the best part. The movie wasn't being screened in Mumbai but somewhere in Gujarat!!!!!!

Don't tell me she's taking two continuous periods!

Development in India

Development in India is a hot burning issue, what with India hosting the CWG this year.

However, I don't think India will ever be classified as developed for the simple reason that the attitude of the people is absolutely hopeless. They care for nothing other than themselves and their families. They don't care tuppence for the country or the people.

You can hear people loudly abusing the politicians and the local leaders. They abuse the public facilities and the government and they abuse the country. "The whole system has to change," they complain loudly. Who will?

You.... Who else? It is only if every "you" out there takes up the responsibility to "change the system," that it will change. You should think twice before throwing paper on the road. You should stop spitting on the road. You should use the powers you get in a democracy to change things.

Don't like the people who rule your country? Go rule it yourself. Stand for elections, become a social worker, start an NGO or do something like that. Don't say the system and the politicians are not all right.

It is all about "YOU" n "YOU" n"YOU". No one else. You can't sit at home and complain loudly about the condition of the road. You can't let your dog shit everywhere and then expect the Corporation to clean it up. You can't tell that the city has no traffic sense when you skip a signal in the middle of the night. You can't blame the police when you left your backdoor open through the night. YOU CAN'T.

If you want to change everything, you must take the initiative. Don't ever say only one man can't do anything. There are individuals who have changed the world. At least the world around them, if not the whole world.

House under siege

Ever heard of a house under siege. Of course. It brings images of burglary, dacoity, and arson.

But something on a different scale happened in my house a few days back, my house was under siege, under attack. And by whom? You'll never guess. crows!!!!!

The crows had a problem, their young chick which couldn't fly had fallen from the nest and was hobbling along the ground, vulnerable to cats or dogs or even human beings.

They attacked anyone who came near the baby and we could only leave home armed. Arms included sticks, helmets and even umbrellas. But soon the action died down and we could walk out in peace.

It was a day of high drama, both for the crows and for us. The neighbours stood outside and warned all passer-by's of the impending danger, a peck from a feathered friend.

As technology gets better and better, there's a lot of buzz about living eco. Everybody says we must plant more trees, save forests etc.etc. There's also a lot of talk about how gadgets harm the brain, emit radiations. There is even a fact that when your mobile rings in your shirt pocket, it actually stops your heart for a second.

The other field where man has advanced is bio-technology. Along with higher yield and more taste, the fertilisers and other things reduce nutritional value and add harmful chemicals inot our systems.

In medical sciences man has advanced so much yet the new medicines have side effects and destroy the balance in our body. Some people still prefer ayurvedic medicines and are going back to that.

In transport, all vehicles emit poisonous gases and they say the earth is getting heated.

Every single way that man has advanced, man has harmed himself and the environment. As i have said many times, I am an eco-freak and I was pondering these issues when I realised exactly what man is doing.

We are advancing at great speed and on reaching what we aimed for, we are saying they are not good and life in the olden days with no moblies and cars and higher-nutrition poison free food is better, why did we advance at all. We shall plant more trees, creating forests everywhere, grow our own crops using manure rather than fertilisers, stop using mobiles, go to school in a bullock cart (or maybe a horse for speed, an elephant for efficiency) and soon we may find ourselves living like men in the stone age and call ourselves eco-friendly men.

Soon, we may puzzle Darwin himself by turning back into chimpanzees. Who knows?

My childhood dream

As a small child, very small mind you, around 4 years into my life, I was fascinated by my father. He knew everything, came up with an answer for every single question of mine and seemed to know half the population of the earth. I also thought he was the second tallest man in the world after his brother. But the thing I hated about him was that my mother allowed him to cross the road yet always held my hand when I crossed a road. At the innocent age of four, my mother asked me what I wanted to do when i grew up and replied, "I want to cross the road without holding anybody's hand."
I now look back and I always ponder on what makes kids so special. Maybe its their innocence, their charm or its just that their nano size makes them different from us teenagers and adults. I may still be considered a kid but a true kid is one who knows nothing but puzzles us with questions that we never thought. They show us the bare bones of life. So next time a kid asks you a silly question, don't laugh.

Saving water

As an environment freak, I always stress on the importance of water which leads to daily debates between my mother and myself. According to our tradition, the area in front of the house must be swept and wash daily. Although I hate this job, I do it everyday just to save water. My mother uses a hose-pipe for the purpose of washing while I use a mug and a bucket (pretty ancient huh!). The debate ultimately leads to a fight and usually I lose it for a single reason, my mother doesn't like to lose.

My First Blog

Hi all. I have started blogging because my sister told me to. The name of my blog, mavinahanu, is the kannada word for mango, which is my favourite fruit. Due to yesterday's rains, there shall be no mangoes available this year as rain during this time of the year destroys the tender flowers of the mango tree.
